MS- DOS(Microsoft Disk Operating System)
Microsoft released DOS in 1981, and 1st version was numbered 1.00 then 1.1,1.25, 2.0so on and then 6.2. It is most common operating system.
Command: A set of word by which we must tell the computer what you want to do, called command.
File Name: File name is a identification of a file. A File name has two parts, Name and Extension. A file name contain up to 8 character long and extension up to 3 characters Extension is used to quickly identify a file and it is optional .
Basic Command
Command Purpose
Date : To set or change the date of machine clock.
Time : To set or change the Time of machine clock.
CLS : To Clear the Screen
VER : Its is used to display version of Operating system .
COPY CON : It is use to create a file.
Syntax: c:> copy con filename
Type : To See the contains of any file.
Syntax: c:> Type filename.
Exit : It is used to exit from DOS.
DIR : To see the disk directories and files.
Syntax: c:> dir
DIR : Will display all directories and files.
DIR/P : Will display all files & directories page wise.
DIR/ON/P : Will display all the files order with name and page wise . (Ascending )
DIR/O-N/P : Will display all the files order with name and page wise.(Descending)
DIR/OD/p : Will display all the files order with date and page wise.(Ascending).
DIR/AD : Will display only directories .
DIR/S : Will Display directories with sub-directories.
DIR/AH : Will display only hidden files.
DIR/AR : Will display only read-only files.
DIR *.* : Will display all files.
DIR*.txt : Will display all files with extension txt.
DIR T*.T* : Will display all files which file name 1st character & extension 1st character is T&T
File handling Commands
EDIT : To modify a file contents.
Syntax: c:>Edit Filename
REN : To change the name of any file or directory.
Syntax: c:> Ren Old Filename New Filename.
COPY : It is use copy a file.
Move : It is move a file in other place
Syntax: c:> Move source Filename Target directory
DEL : To erase file from disk.
Syntax: c:> del Filename
Directory/Folder handling Commands
MD : To make a Directory.
CD : Change Directory, to enter in to sub-directory
CD.. : Exit from a sub-directory
CD\ : To Reach root directory from any other directory.
RD : To Remove Directory
